Broadcast
Whilst at university I studied Sound Design, Foley Sound, Post Production, Video Editing (examples here) and Production and have experience in Broadcast Engineering and Camera Operations which have enabled me to be able to film and produce music videos for my compositions, in order to support and add depth to the lyrics and further enhance the meaning of the songs.
Research
Research undertaken involved the use of computer technology, experimental microphone placement techniques, first reflections and temporal fusion in order to enhance audio production within acoustically treated spaces – specifically targeting orchestral instrument sections.
I am also passionate about acoustics and the physics of sound, having studied and researched the relationship between different materials in the realms of instrument construction since 1997, along with my background in building, this research has enabled me to have designed and built several home studios. Coupled with my knowledge of acoustics and acoustic design these have been very successful and I am confident in designing, planning and building these treated spaces to a very high standard.

Composition
I have been writing music as long as I have been playing, my main instrument is the electric bass guitar which I have been playing for over 38 years, and I also play guitar, keyboard, cello, double bass and saxophone. I studied a Music Production HND in 2012 and have been composing in various different styles to a professional standard since then. My recent Music Production degree built upon my already considerable production and compositional skills and I am experienced in professional recording studio operations and collaborating with a wide variety of professional musicians to a very high standard.
G21 Music was originally set up in 2010 to provide a vehicle for collaboration with different musicians whilst incorporating a wide range of musical styles and genres. My musical tastes have always been very eclectic and this shows in my compositional style, working under the pseudonym G21 facilitates this and encompasses everything from punk to classical.
Composition for film and television has always been my passion and I have collaborated with artists such as DJ Timmy Vegas (Soul Central, West Loop Chicago, Boogie Down Dee Jays, Robert Plant) and Mark Hartley (Soul Central, Robert Plant, FunkPig, Law of Three).
I have achieved airplay on BBC Introducing and local radio, have had my compositions shortlisted for use in high end TV and film projects, and I continue to compose and release music independently under the name of G21 Music – with 4 albums due to be released through DistroKid in Winter/Spring 2025/26.
Please see the Music section in the main header for examples of my work
